Parent Issues
Parents can face any number of issues as they navigate the process of identifying and implementing educational supports -at school, at home, and through outside resources. In my various roles I have counseled parents in navigating a wide range of matters, including:
- Understanding what academic and organizational challenges to address in various contexts
- Identifying and integrating appropriate technology tools
- Managing transitions to a new school
- Identifying mechanisms to receive and manage accommodations
- Preparing for a meeting at school after an assessment has been performed
- Creating systems which encourage self-advocacy at school
- Selecting a school: seeking a good fit between an academic program and your child's needs
- Establishing more effective home study environments
- Finding solutions when a student's needs and a teacher's style are not a good fit
- Setting boundaries around home computer use
- Pursuing ADD-friendly routines at home
- Implementing a process for hiring and measuring the effectiveness of a tutor, coach or buddy
I invite you to read about the ways I support parents in navigating some of these issues. If you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss these or other matters, please contact me to schedule an appointment.
