Helping Parents

With over ten years experience collaborating with parents to identify effective school-based and outside interventions, I understand many of the issues and challenges they face.  I invite you to read about the ways I support parents in navigating these issues.

Parent Issues

Parents can face any number of issues as they navigate the process of identifying and implementing educational supports -at school, at home, and through outside resources.  In my various roles I have counseled parents in navigating a wide range of matters, including:

  • Understanding what academic and organizational challenges to address in various contexts
  • Identifying and integrating appropriate technology tools
  • Managing transitions to a new school
  • Identifying mechanisms to receive and manage accommodations
  • Preparing for a meeting at school after an assessment has been performed
  • Creating systems which encourage self-advocacy at school
  • Selecting a school: seeking a good fit between an academic program and your child's needs
  • Establishing more effective home study environments
  • Finding solutions when a student's needs and a teacher's style are not a good fit
  • Setting boundaries around home computer use
  • Pursuing ADD-friendly routines at home
  • Implementing a process for hiring and measuring the effectiveness of a tutor, coach or buddy
