About EdTherapy

Dan Leibowitz was born and raised in Connecticut and spent significant portions of his childhood in Vermont, where he later earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Vermont.  After graduating in 1991 he spent two years in northern New Mexico teaching skiing and later pursued his interest in working with kids by earning a Master's in Education.  In 1995 he was hired by the Weston, CT Public Schools and was charged with creating and delivering the 6th grade language arts and study skills curricula.  It was there that he learned about instructional design, assessment, the needs of different kinds of learners, classroom management, the IEP process, team-teaching, and working with parents. In 1997, after two years of classroom teaching, he relocated to San Francisco where he enrolled in San Francisco State's Special Education Master's and Educational Therapy programs.  It was at this time that he founded EdTherapy Education Services and began focusing on the ways technology and other tools can accommodate students.  Hired by Drew School in 1999 to direct its emerging Learning Support Program, he learned a great deal about the opportunities and challenges associated with supporting high school students with learning and attentional disabilities -in and out of school.  After this experience, Dan was hired by JCHS to provide educational support to its students.  Through extensive collaboration with the school counselor, Dan developed a keener appreciation for the emotional lives of adolescents.  Dan was recently hired by Town School for Boys as a learning specialist.

In his private practice, Dan continues supporting students and individuals of all ages in learning to apply digital and visual learning tools to work through challenging tasks.  He also enjoys designing innovative classes and presentations for conferences, schools, parent and professional groups.  In his spare time he's off enjoying life with his wife and chasing around his one-year old son.

Born out of a love for teaching, learning, and the tools that organize the process, EdTherapy Education Services takes pride in the fact that it is run by a certified teacher who supports learners of all ages, helps parents identify and pursue educational supports, and designs a variety of engaging presentations for professional groups, schools, and parent organizations.
