For an overview of common assistive technologies and related considerations, here is an excellent article from SchwabLearning.org.

EdTherapy Education Services provides customized training for individual and small groups with the following technologies:

Semantic mapping software allows individuals to actively engage in organizing complex ideas by creating concept maps. These applications are built around the assumption that "thinking visually" is easier for many students than organizing ideas in a linear, traditional outline fashion.

Vocabulary Development
Word prediction software suggests a list of likely words based on a few letters which the user types. This allows students (who can recognize correct words from a list of options) to speed up the typing process significantly.
Voice recognition software turns spoken language into written text. Many students can articulate thoughts very clearly but have motor skill weaknesses, which make typing laborious, frustrating, and time-consuming. (Don't believe the cynics. It works great.)
"Talking" word processors speak aloud what is typed so that individuals receive immediate verbal feedback on their writing. Users see and hear their thoughts.
Literacy software tools simultaneously highlight and speak digital text. They incorporate a variety of excellent study skills tools, such as highlighting, inserting text and voice notes, and word prediction.
Exploring and understanding data PDAs / Handhelds offer a variety of solutions for organizing time, keeping track of assignments, improving learning skills, and carrying reference materials. Concept mapping software can also be downloaded onto a PDA.

Books on an iPod (or other MP3 players) are an easy and convenient way of listening to text.
